About Children’s Therapy Tasmania
Trauma-informed counselling, play therapy and professional support for children, families and practitioners across Tasmania.
Children’s Therapy Tasmania is a Tasmanian-based practice offering counselling, play therapy, parenting support, and professional services grounded in trauma-informed, child-centred, and relational care.
We support children, families, and the professionals who work alongside them, with a focus on safety, understanding, and meaningful, sustainable change.
Supporting Children to Feel Safe,
Understood and Supported
At the heart of Children’s Therapy Tasmania is a simple belief:
Children thrive when they feel safe, seen, and supported in their relationships.
Our work with children focuses on:
understanding behaviour as communication
supporting emotional regulation and expression
strengthening relationships between children and their caregivers
creating safe, developmentally appropriate therapeutic spaces
We offer counselling and play therapy for children aged 3–15, alongside support for parents and carers navigating their child’s emotional and behavioural needs.
A relational, trauma-informed approach
Our work is grounded in trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice.
This means we:
prioritise emotional safety and connection
consider the impact of trauma, stress, and life experiences
move at a pace that feels manageable for each child and family
work collaboratively with parents, carers, and professionals
We are not focused on quick fixes or surface-level solutions.
Instead, we support deeper understanding, reflection, and long-term change that honours the child’s voice and experience.
What this means for you and your child
Families often come to Children’s Therapy Tasmania feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or concerned about their child’s wellbeing.
Our approach supports:
children to feel safe enough to express their emotions
parents to better understand their child’s behaviour and needs
families to strengthen connection and communication

You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Support begins with a conversation.

Meet the therapist behind Children’s Therapy Tasmania
Ashleigh - Founder, Child Therapist & Supervisor
Hello! I’m Ashleigh, I’ve been a Social Worker, working with children and families for over 10 years.
I created this service to give children a space where their voices are heard and values, where they feel safe to be exactly who they are, and where parents and professionals feel supported every step of the way.
My background has seen me working across complex family systems including child protection, family services, schools, early childhood education settings, therapeutic settings, as well as leadership.
Children’s Therapy Tasmania is committed to:
honouring the culture of childhood and empowering children, parents and practitioners through ethical, heart-centred and trauma-informed care.
A commitment to ethical and reflective practice
We believe that high quality therapeutic work requires:
ongoing reflection and supervision
a commitment to learning and growing
awareness of power, safety and responsibility
prioritising the wellbeing of children and families
This commitment extends to both our direct work with families and our support of professionals.
